The BioBusiness Alliance of Minnesota™ is an organization of people representing Minnesota companies, academia, and government, devoted to (1) building the bioscience industry, (2) retaining and creating jobs, and (3) positioning Minnesota as a global leader in biobusiness with the ultimate goal of improving economic, health, social, and environmental well-being.

Vision

Minnesota will be the location of choice as judged by innovators, entrepreneurs, and investors for established and emerging biobusinesses.

Mission:

Enhance the well-being of our citizens by mobilizing and connecting the community to support the growth of biobusinesses by providing a roadmap for success, infrastructure, and a welcoming and supportive environment.

Charter Responsibilities:

1. Continuously measure, understand, and enrich Minnesota’s global competitive position.
2. Build an action-based alliance of industry, academia, and government to ensure the long-term vitality of Minnesota’s biobusiness industries.
3. Develop a clear roadmap for global competitiveness and strategies for implementation.

Strategic Objectives:

There are three major strategic work areas to fulfill the charter responsibilities.

• Statewide Assessment provide a national and global comparative picture of Minnesota’s competitiveness in biobusiness on an ongoing basis.
• Destination 2025: develop a strategic vision and roadmap for the state’s biobusiness industries.
• BioBusiness Resource Network: create a virtual network to support emerging and established biobusiness enterprises.
  

Definitions:

Bioscience:

Bioscience is knowledge based on the life sciences, especially emerging molecular and cellular biology, and also science applied to human health, agriculture, and bio-related industry.

Biobusiness:

Biobusiness is economic activity devoted to the development and commercialization of bioscience or bioscience-related technologies, products or services. Biobusiness covers the spectrum of enterprises from start-ups to established firms, together with associated infrastructure and support services.
